Beverly Shores' Future
Political Action Committee

Candice Peterson-Smith

I’ve been a full time resident of Beverly Shores for nine years. I’ve been pouring my energy into this community in a meaningful way since day 1. During that time, I have volunteered with the environmental groups of Beverly Shores. Since the summer we moved here, I have been involved with the Environment Committee of ABSR (I am currently the Chair), the Board of Directors of ABSR (I am currently Vice President), and the Environmental Restoration Group (“ERG”, where I am on the Board of Directors). Outside of Beverly Shores, I am a Board member of the North Chapter of the Indiana Native Plant Society and a Hoosier Riverwatch Instructor (a citizen science group sponsored by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, “IDEM”). My primary job is teaching Biology at Ivy Tech Community College in Valparaiso. On that note, I earned a Ph.D. in Ecology & Environmental Science from Indiana University at Bloomington.

My interests and background revolve around natural resources. I love this community and its natural beauty. The reason I am running for Town Council is that I believe that the best natural resource we have in this town is YOU. I am here to listen to you and I want to help improve how we understand each other and work together. Together, we can work to support our first responders, follow the guidance of the Comprehensive Plan to preserve our minimum lot sizes to maintain our low population density, restrict short term rentals, and find solutions to modernizing our infrastructure.

I’d also like to help improve transparency to the budget and appropriations processes so that we all can understand what resources our Town does and does not have.
